George Papalambrou
George Papalambrou is Associate Professor of Control Systems for marine propulsion plants at SNAME, NTUA. He received his Dipl. in Mechanical Engineering from NTUA in 1992, MSc in Control Systems and Information Technology from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK in 1993 and PhD in Marine Engineering from the SNAME, NTUA, in 2008.
He worked in industry from 1995 to 2004, in applications including control systems and automation, robots, PLCs, image processing, data acquisition, defense systems. He joined SNAME from 10/2008 to 2/2010 as Lecturer (407/80) and in 2010 as Lecturer. In 11/2015 he was elected Assistant Professor.
He teaches various courses in control systems and laboratory exercises, in undergraduate and graduate level.
His research interests are in the areas of Machine Learning and Neural Networks, Image Processing for the marine environment, Model Predictive Control (MPC), Hinfinity robust control, adaptive control, optimal control with observers, system identification. Applications include control of marine propulsion powertrains with diesel engines and hybrid electric motors as well as computer vision for sea environment. The above control methodologies has been applied to experimental test engines and laboratory devices at LME.
He has been involved as Team Leader of research teams in research projects funded by EU (2008-2018). He serves as PI for NTUA's participation in EU project FASTWATER (2020-2024).
As member of team NOUS (nous.com.gr) he developed and maintains the operation of underwater real-time imaging system at Alonnisos Peristera sea-wreck.
He is a Reviewer in Control Engineering Practice and Journal of Systems and Control Engineering.
