The test cell, covering an area of 136 sq. meters, is housed in a soundproof enclosure, which has also been especially designed so as to minimise the vibrational loading of the building. The test cell floor is covered with modular gratings while its roof consists of detachable covers which can be easily removed using a travelling gantry crane. Ventilation and temperature control of the test cell is achieved by employing two centrifugal fans, capable of maintaining an air through flow of 25,000 cu. meters per hour. The test cell is also equipped with a modern fire fighting system. The test cell is located in the basement of the Laboratory.

The control room, located one level above and overlooking the test cell, houses the monitoring, alarm and control systems for the facility. A state-of-the-art fuel separation and conditioning facility is located ajdacent to the fuel tank room. Special provision has also been made for future installation of experimental catalytic reduction facility for emissions control.
View related paper The New Laboratory Facility MARTHA for Marine Propulsion Research and Development, CIMAC Congress 2001, Hamburg.

Supporting Facilities

Auxiliary Power Generator

Workshops

© 2007 LME
